Housebuilder calls for Help to Buy weaning
Taylor Wimpey has called for the industry to start weaning itself off Help to Buy.

Group land and planning director Peter Andrew praised the government's flagship housing scheme, calling it the "shot in the arm" the housebuilding industry needed, according to Construction News.

However, in light of new data suggesting new home registrations in London have hit the highest level since records began, he has called for housebuilders to be "weaned off" the scheme to allow the market to step up.

Mr Andrew was talking at the National House-Building Council's (NHBC) annual new home registration'sbriefing for 2013.

The NHBC figures show 26,230 new homes were registered in the capital last year, which is a 60 per cent increase on the 2012 figure of 16,364.

Furthermore, 133,670 new UK homes were registered last year, in comparison to 104,514 in 2012, while every single English region reported growth from last year's figures.

Mr Andrew added that while confidence in the industry was returning - thanks to Help to Buy - there had been green shoots of recovery before the scheme started.
